Gösta Berlings saga

Mauritz Stiller, 1924
new score by YoJuliet and Jonas Jonasson

Feasts, madness, sleigh rides and wolves

Mauritz Stiller’s film of Selma Lagerlöf’s novel Gösta Berlings saga (The Saga of Gösta Berling), with Greta Garbo in one of the leading roles, turned 100 in 2024 – and has been given the Swedish Film Institute’s most extensive restoration to date. The story unfolds around Lake Löven and the Ekeby estate in Värmland in the early 1800s. YoJuliet and Jonas Jonasson of bob hund have written a new score for strings, percussion, voice and synths – comic, beautiful and deeply unsettling, often all at once.
