En herrgårdssägen eller som filmen heter, Gunnar Hedes saga, skriven av Selma Lagerlöf, handlar om Gunnar Hede, en ung man som förlorar sin psykiska hälsa efter svåra händelser i livet. Han börjar tappa kontakten med verkligheten. När han möter Ingrid får han genom hennes kärlek och omtanke en chans att hitta tillbaka till sig själv. Berättelsen handlar om kärlek, sorg och hopp.
